Power and Capability of the 2025 Ram 1500 RHO

The 2025 model year introduces a new engine for the 2025 model year as the brand’s V8 engines make their exit. Providing more power than the outgoing 5.7L engine, the new Hurricane engine simultaneously offers better fuel efficiency as well. The Hurricane engine includes a 3.0L straight six-cylinder engine with two low-inertia twin-scroll turbochargers mounted to it for forced air induction. The twin-turbo engine comes in two output levels: standard and high output. While the standard output Hurricane engine delivers 420 horsepower and 469 lb-ft of torque, the high-output engine – the one under the hood of the RHO – rips out a hefty 540 horsepower and 521 lb-ft of torque. Both the standard and high-output engines provide a significant increase in power output compared to the outgoing 5.7L V8 engine’s 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. Using the launch control feature and steering wheel paddle shifters, the RHO puts the twin-turbo engine to work, providing a 0-60 time of just 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 118 MPH. The top speed matches that of the outgoing TRX, while the 0-60 time only adds one-tenth of a second to the TRX’s.

While the RHO provides drivers with a heart-pounding on-road driving experience with its immense power numbers, it is most at home off the road and on loose sand, steep rocks, or wooded trails. With a two-inch lift and knobby 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory all-terrain tires, the Ram 1500 RHO towers over the core Ram 1500 lineup with 11.8 inches of ground clearance. The RHO also features enhanced approach, breakover, and departure angles for superior ground clearance over the most uneven terrains. The RHO also features Bilstein Black Hawk e2 shock absorbers, designed originally for the TRX. These shocks, along with independent front and rear suspension systems, provide 13 inches of suspension travel in the front and 14 inches in the rear, allowing it to basically crawl over rugged terrain. The shock absorbers use Ram’s advanced Active Terrain Dynamics to automatically adjust to changes in the terrain to continuously provide a smooth ride both on and off the road. The Active Terrain Dynamics system works in conjunction with the RHO’s nine drive modes: Custom, Auto, Sport, Tow, Baja, Mud/Sand, Baja, Valet, Rock, and Snow. While this system controls the suspension stiffness and steering feel, it also takes control of the traction control, power output, transmission shift points, torque split, and other critical functions to maximize performance on the selected terrain. Meanwhile, auto mode automatically makes adjustments and custom mode allows the driver to set the controls manually. Enhancing traction on tough terrain is a full-time automatic BorgWarner 48-13 transfer case, a Dana 60 full-float rear axle, and an electronic locking rear differential.

Using the power provided by its new Hurricane engine, the 2025 RHO can pull up to 8,380 pounds behind it — enough towing capacity for a boat, a small camper, landscaping equipment, and more. As was mentioned above, the RHO comes with nine drive modes, including a Tow mode. When the driver selects Tow mode, it makes adjustments to optimize the powertrain for towing. First, the transfer case is shifted into 4-Low mode to deliver more torque from a stop. Meanwhile, the torque split is adjusted to send more torque to the rear wheels. The RHO, just like the core Ram 1500 lineup, comes standard with a Class IV trailer hitch receiver. The RHO is also eligible for a wide range of available features and technologies, such as a digital rearview mirror with tow mode, giving you an unobstructed view of your trailer and its surroundings. Meanwhile, Trailer Reverse Steering Control places a knob on the center stack for the driver to use to control the direction of the trailer while the truck manages to steer itself. This system can be accompanied by Trailer Auto Hitch Assist, which automatically guides the trailer hitch toward the trailer’s tongue while the driver manages the gas and brake pedals. Other advanced towing technologies include but are not limited to reverse guidance with split screen view, trailer sway control, Trailer Tow Pages, blindspot monitoring with trailer coverage up to 32.9 feet, rear air suspension, and more.
